Vyatta documentation

Learn how to install, configure, and operate the Vyatta Network Operating System (Vyatta NOS) and Orchestrator, which help drive our virtual networking and physical platforms portfolio.

Azure hardware support

The Vyatta NOS will run on most of the offered Azure machines.  The one hardware requirement is that the chosen Azure machine must have support for SSE3.

Supported machines

The machine requirements for this release are detailed in this section.

At the time of writing, the Vyatta team believe that the F series looks good and we note that the Fv2 VMs are currently being pushed by Microsoft and appear to be both the cheapest and fastest option. We believe that the 8 vCPU option will give the fastest performance for a 2 interface device which is what we understand the Azure ADI solution will use.

It is really up to the team paying the bills to determine the best machine type for the said solution, combined with the said machine performing at the appropriate speed for the solution. For the target environment, CPU clock speed will have a direct effect on packet throughput and that should be a strong consideration when considering the machine types.
