Specify the boot device in the host system BIOS

If your host system is not already configured to boot from a CD, DVD or USB drive, then you must configure it to do so before you can boot from LiveCD or LiveUSB, as appropriate.

  1. Switch your host system on. During the boot sequence, press the appropriate key to interrupt the process and enter the system's BIOS setup program.
The appropriate interrupt key varies by manufacturer and by model, but is commonly either F2 or DEL.
  2. In the BIOS setup program, find the options to set the order of the boot devices. Arrange the order of boot devices such that the CD, DVD or USB drive that you wish to use is first in the list. This makes the system prioritize a bootable image on this device, when one is present.
  3. Save the settings.

The next time you restart the system it will boot from the device that you chose, so long as you insert the bootable disk first. Thus you can boot from a LiveCD or LiveUSB disk image.
