Limitations of Vyatta NOS on VMware
There are some limitations of using a vRouter that prevent it functioning in the VMware environment.
VRRP in RFC-Compliant mode does not function in the VMware environment.
To prevent RFC compatibility issues when running a vRouter on a VMware platform, by default, RFC compliant MAC address behavior is not enabled on vRouter.
To enable MAC address RFC-compliance, you must run the set interfaces <interface> vrrp vrrp-group <group-id> rfc-compatibility
command.
The default behavior of non-RFC-compliant MAC addresses is required for any deployment in which VMware provides Layer 2 services. This is because vSwitch does not support true MAC learning and blocks traffic when MAC addresses move between the ports of an L2 switch.
Also, RFC-compliant VRRP requires that MAC addresses can be moved between routers that participate in a group. For more information about MAC support on VMware, refer to the VMware documentation.
