Troubleshoot: Image not installed

[Please suggest content for the Short Description, to summarise and introduce this topic.]

When you first deploy Vyatta you must install the image and reboot the system.

Vyatta will function from a LiveCD image without the need to install the operating system to a persistent disk. However, it is common for a new user to forget to complete the installation process in full; and then be surprised that their configuration changes do not survive a reboot. Changes do not survive a reboot when the user runs Vyatta from the LiveCD image and not from a persistent disk.

  • Get started on a new installation with the install image command.
  • Get started on installation or upgrade an image with the add system image <location> command.

To check the state of an installation, do these steps:

  1. Check what software version and image you are currently running: Use the show version command.
  2. Check what image will boot by default after you reboot the system: Use the show system image command.
