Vyatta documentation

Learn how to install, configure, and operate the Vyatta Network Operating System (Vyatta NOS) and Orchestrator, which help drive our virtual networking and physical platforms portfolio.

Use LiveCD to run or install Vyatta NOS

LiveCD lets you run Vyatta NOS on a host system without change to its installed operating system. The LiveCD deployment method is best suited to evaluation and test scenarios, not for production use. You'll also need the LiveCD deployment method if you wish to install Vyatta NOS to a persistent device, such as a hard disk.

The host system uses a RAM disk for writable sections of the file system, and it uses an external system — such as a TFTP server or USB memory stick — to store configuration files.

  • You cannot upgrade an installation from LiveCD — each upgrade requires a fresh LiveCD
  • While you run the system from LiveCD, you are not able to access other applications or programs on your system

To create the LiveCD, you'll need a copy of the Vyatta NOS disk image (ISO file).

  • You can install the Vyatta NOS disk image on any hypervisor that supports Vyatta NOS, and on most standard x86 servers and PCs
